Experience Old Town Vallejo at its Best at The Hub
“The Hub is a nexus for all arts in Vallejo. It is a place for all of us to connect, share our knowledge, show our work, build our community, and create activity, interest, vibrance , and prosperity in our city.”
Downtown Vallejo is coming alive, presenting an eclectic mix of coffee houses, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, music, and local artisans…a destination worthy of discovery.
The Hub Community Center for the Arts is one of those must-experience destinations. The Hub provides a safe, family-friendly environment that includes a large open commons area, an art gallery, and an artisans’ boutique. The commons, or “cozy corner”, as manager Mary-Jane Etchegaray-Szalan describes the area, is quiet and relaxing, the perfect atmosphere for community meetings, telecommuting, doing homework, having lunch, socializing, playing chess, constructing a jig-saw puzzle, or reading a book.
Walk through the front doors of The Hub and surround yourself with locally handcrafted pottery, statuary, leather goods, greeting cards, scarfs, hats, clothing for babies and toddlers, and jewelry. The walls are lined with fascinating water color and oil paintings, photography, and works in etched wood, all for sale at reasonable prices. The Hub is the perfect place for gift shopping for any occasion.
The Hub also features an array of exciting events. Every first Saturday of the month is Band Nite, high-lighting popular local musicians. Doors open at 7:30 and the show begins at 8pm. The 2nd and 4th Thursdays is Poetry by the Bay, 7:30-9:30pm. Every fourth Saturday features Ceilidh (Irish Dance) lessons, from 4-7pm, taught by The Irish Steppers and accompanied by the band Blame the Whiskey. Children’s Theater by Terry Rucker is also a very popular class given every Wednesday from 4-5:30pm for kids aged 6-18. The culmination of these classes is a performance on stage. Go to TheHubVallejo.org or http://www.facebook.com/-TheHub-Vallejo/events. for monthly calendars of events.
As a showcase for local artists, The Hub is a donation-based, volunteer only organization. If you are interested in helping out or putting on a musical gig, theatrical production, or other event, contact info@TheHubVallejo.org.

The Hub is located in the Oddfellows Lodge Building on the corner of Georgia and Marin Streets. Built in 1872, it’s one of the oldest buildings in the downtown area, having once housed the famed City of Paris department store and Merrill’s Drugs.
